Outdoor concrete paint should be chosen for the actual surface and exposure. A resin name, quick-drying label or decorative finish does not establish suitability for every patio, driveway or wet area.
Describe the project
Identify the concrete condition, previous finish, moisture, pedestrian or vehicle traffic and desired appearance. Resolve drainage, contamination and surface defects before painting. Read the concrete preparation guide.
Choose an approved exterior coating
Browse exterior floor paints and floor paints. Check that the exact product is approved for the substrate and use. Do not transfer an indoor industrial paint’s instructions to an outdoor patio or presume that acrylic, epoxy or polyurethane is always best.
Check the finish
A textured finish may be useful where specified, but it does not guarantee grip on algae, oil or ice. Waterproofing, UV resistance and anti-mould claims require product evidence. A floor paint is not a substitute for a designed wet-room or waterproofing system.
Do not add a sealer automatically
Only apply a paving sealer or clear topcoat over paint when the manufacturers approve that combination. Test appearance and adhesion as directed; an unapproved extra layer can change the finish and performance.
Application and maintenance
Confirm coverage, coats, weather limits and curing stages from the current instructions. Allow the required return-to-service time before walking or driving on the surface. There is no universal three-to-five-year lifespan; inspect wear and maintain the approved system.
