The 5 Most Overlooked (But Game-Changing) Applications for Trade & Home

The 5 Most Overlooked (But Game-Changing) Applications for Trade & Home

Unusual coating projects need stronger product checks, not broader assumptions. A floor paint, wood varnish or paving sealer should only be used on surfaces and in conditions approved for that exact product.

1. Wet rooms

Do not use Extreme polyurethane floor paint as a shower-floor finish or wet-room waterproofing system. Read the wet-room suitability guide. Waterproofing, drainage, substrate compatibility and slip requirements need a specified complete system.

2. Concrete furniture and worktops

A decorative coating does not establish food-contact approval, heat resistance or suitability for a worktop. Obtain explicit evidence for those requirements before applying a product near food preparation or hot equipment.

3. Ponds and water features

Do not use a general sealer in a birdbath, pond or fountain without approval for continuous immersion and the intended wildlife or water exposure. A water-resistant description is insufficient.

4. Outdoor metal and wood

Choose products specifically approved for the substrate and exposure. Metal coatings, floor paints and wood varnishes are separate product roles. Confirm primer and topcoat compatibility rather than substituting by colour or finish.

5. Floors, patios and roofs

Use floor paints, driveway and patio sealers and roof paints and sealers according to their stated application. A roof coating is not a structural repair and a paving sealer does not fix failing joints or drainage. Send the supplier the full project conditions when the intended use is outside the published instructions.
