Concrete can be painted when the surface and conditions are suitable for the chosen coating. The first decision is whether you are treating a floor, an exterior path, another concrete surface or an area needing a specialist system.
Identify the concrete and use
Record the surface condition, previous coating, moisture, indoor or outdoor location and expected traffic. Sound concrete, an old painted slab and a proprietary screed can require different preparation and product approval. Confirm suitability for the actual substrate rather than treating all cement-based surfaces as identical.
Choose the exact coating
Browse floor paints and use the floor-paint selection guide. Extreme polyurethane floor paint and Floormaster are distinct listed products with separate instructions. The Extreme polyurethane product is not suitable for wet rooms. For an exterior floor, compare approved exterior options and confirm the intended traffic.
Prepare the surface
Read the concrete preparation guide. Investigate moisture and defects before coating; paint does not repair structural failure or solve an unresolved damp source. Follow the chosen system’s requirements for contamination, old coatings and mechanical preparation. Do not recommend acid etching or another preparation method for every floor.
Primer and coat count
Use the exact primer required by the coating and surface. Do not assume every slab requires the same primer or that every primer can be left as the finished floor. Confirm coat count and coverage for the product. An extra coat is not a substitute for correct preparation.
Drying and returning to use
Distinguish touch-dry, recoat, pedestrian, vehicle and full-cure stages. Confirm those stages from the current instructions, including required conditions. A quick-drying label does not establish that cars can return on the same day, and a decorative paint is not a designed waterproofing system.
Maintenance and advice
Clean with compatible products and inspect high-wear or contaminated areas. Investigate peeling before repainting. Send the supplier the substrate, previous coating, moisture and traffic details where the proposed application is uncertain.
