Do I need to use a primer before polyurethane floor paint?

Yes. Bare, porous, mechanically ground or polished concrete should be primed with Extreme Paints Clear Polyurethane Primer & Sealer before painting. Priming helps reduce porosity, improve adhesion and achieve a more even, long-lasting finish.

How long does polyurethane floor paint take to dry?

At approximately 18°C, the floor paint is touch dry in around 6–8 hours and can normally be recoated after 6–8 hours. Allow around 24 hours before light foot traffic, 72 hours before vehicle or forklift traffic, and approximately 7 days for full cure and maximum chemical resistance.

Do you stock any paints suitable for wet room floors?

We do not currently recommend this product for wet room floors. Please contact us if you need help choosing a coating for a specific wet or permanently damp environment.

This product is primarily designed for interior and sheltered floor surfaces. For fully exposed exterior floors, driveways or areas subject to continuous weathering, we recommend choosing one of our dedicated exterior floor or driveway coatings instead.

What colours are available for this floor paint?

The range is available in 13 standard colours including Grey, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Mid Green, Dark Green, Red, Post Office Red, Orange, Blue, Yellow, Black, White and Brown. For larger projects or specific colour requirements, please contact us to discuss bulk and custom colour availability.

How much surface area does one tin cover?

Coverage is approximately 5–7 m² per litre per coat, depending on the porosity, texture and condition of the surface. As a general guide, 5L covers around 30 m² for one coat or around 15 m² for two coats, 10L covers around 60 m² for one coat or around 30 m² for two coats, and 20L covers around 120 m² for one coat or around 60 m² for two coats.

Is this floor paint resistant to chemicals and oil?

Once fully cured, the coating provides good resistance to oils, fuels, lubricants and common industrial spillages. If the floor will be exposed to a specific chemical or unusually aggressive substance, contact us before ordering so suitability can be confirmed.

How does polyurethane floor paint compare with epoxy floor paint?

Polyurethane and epoxy floor paints have different advantages depending on the application. This single-pack polyurethane floor paint is easy to apply and provides excellent abrasion resistance, flexibility and durability for garages, workshops, warehouses and other high-traffic floors. Two-part epoxy systems may be preferred for some specialist applications, so contact us if you are unsure which system is best.

Can this paint be used to create an anti-slip floor?

Yes. An anti-slip version is available with an aggregate added to create a textured, slip-resistant finish. It is a good option for workshops, warehouses, walkways and other areas where additional grip is required.

How should I prepare my floor before painting?

The floor must be clean, dry and free from dust, loose paint, grease, oil and other contamination. Power-floated or very smooth concrete should be mechanically ground to create a suitable key. Bare or porous concrete should then be primed with Extreme Paints Clear Polyurethane Primer & Sealer before applying the floor paint.

Is polyurethane floor paint easy to apply?

Yes. The paint can be applied by brush or roller. The smooth finish may also be sprayed where suitable, but the anti-slip version should not be sprayed. For the best finish and durability, apply two thin coats at right angles and avoid applying the paint too heavily.
