Choose varnish by the exact substrate, location and intended use. A clear finish, polyurethane description or yacht name does not establish compatibility with every wood, metal, floor or marine application.
Match the substrate
Browse woodcare and varnishes. Confirm whether the chosen varnish is approved for the particular timber and indoor or outdoor location. Do not transfer a wood-varnish recommendation to metal, composite decking, a floor or a food-contact surface without product-specific approval.
Compare the appearance
Clear and coloured finishes can change the appearance of wood differently. Check the available finish and test a small prepared area before coating the whole project. Sample testing helps assess appearance but does not establish long-term performance.
Yacht and exterior finishes
Browse yacht varnish and wood finishes. “Yacht” does not prove approval for constant immersion, boat decks or every saltwater exposure. Confirm the actual use and technical sheet before choosing a marine application. UV and weather-resistance claims must be supported for the specific product.
Prepare and apply
Confirm compatibility with the existing finish, required preparation, coat count, coverage and recoat window. Do not automatically varnish over paint. Use a suitable remover only where its instructions approve the substrate and coating, and follow its cleaning and neutralising requirements.
Cure and maintain
Use the product safety sheet for ventilation and protection, including water-based products. Follow the required curing stages before use. There is no universal three-to-ten-year varnish lifespan; inspect the finish and maintain it according to its condition and approved instructions.
