Extreme Paints Oil-Based Satinwood Paint is a professional-grade, alkyd-based interior and exterior satinwood paint formulated to outperform standard decorative finishes. The high-solids formula creates a durable, flexible film that resists yellowing, abrasion, and moisture, ideal for skirting boards, window frames, handrails, and MDF units.

widy

Unlike water-based alternatives, this oil-based satinwood provides extended open time for superior levelling and brush-free results. Applied over Extreme Paints Metal Oxide Primer, it forms a 50 µm dry film that resists everyday cleaning and wear in high-use spaces such as hallways, utility rooms, and commercial joinery.

Manufactured under ISO 9001 in the UK, the finish maintains a 35–40% sheen level – the perfect balance of durability and elegance for satinwood paint users seeking professional-grade results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this oil-based satinwood paint prone to yellowing?
All alkyd-based paints will yellow slightly over time, especially in dark rooms. Magnolia shades help mask this. Light exposure slows yellowing.
Can I apply satinwood paint over a water-based undercoat?
Yes, as long as the undercoat is fully cured and lightly sanded to ensure adhesion.
What’s the minimum application temperature?
Apply at 10 °C or above. Cold conditions may slow curing or cause blooming.
Will the finish self-level for a brush-free look?
Yes, the long-oil formula is designed for excellent levelling. Use a quality synthetic brush and maintain a wet edge.
Is it suitable for painting radiators?
Yes—once fully cured (after 7 days), it withstands heat up to 90 °C.
Can I spray this satinwood paint?
Absolutely. Use HVLP with a 1.8 mm tip or airless (0.013–0.015″). Thin with up to 10 % white spirit if needed.
How can I get a smooth door finish with satinwood?
Sand the primer with P240, tack clean, apply a mist coat, denib with P320, then follow with two full satin coats. Tip off the second coat lightly.
Do I need to sand between coats?
Only if more than 24 h passes. A light de-nib helps promote intercoat adhesion.
Can I add hardener to speed up the cure?
No—this satinwood is a single-pack system. Do not use additives.
When can I clean the painted surface?
Wait at least 7 days before wiping down with a soft cloth and mild detergent.
