Paintmaster Acrylic Tarmac Paint & Sealer is a single-pack, water-based acrylic driveway coating formulated to restore colour, seal, and protect tired tarmacadam, asphalt, and suitably prepared porous concrete.

The breathable resin locks down loose aggregate and helps prevent fretting and raveling while forming a durable, weather-resistant barrier that repels rainwater, oil drips, and everyday dirt. Unlike solvent systems, this low-odour acrylic is easy to apply, quick to recoat, and cleans up with water to make it ideal for domestic driveways, paths, car-park bays, and forecourts.

Two factory options cover most use cases:

  • Normal: a smooth satin finish that refreshes colour and leaves a smart, easy-clean surface for standard residential drives.

  • Anti-Slip: the same advanced acrylic, pre-charged with fine silica to create a subtle, micro-textured satin that improves grip in wet conditions without feeling harsh underfoot, perfect for slopes, entrances, and high-footfall routes.

Manufactured in the UK under ISO 9001 quality controls and supplied in 5 L, 10 L, and 20 L tins, Paintmaster Acrylic Tarmac Paint & Sealer supports projects of all sizes from quick DIY driveway refreshes to trade-scale car-park refurbishments.

Applied in two thin coats, it delivers a uniform, colour-true finish with strong adhesion to asphalt and porous concrete, helping reduce dusting and day-to-day maintenance.

Suitable Substrates:

  • Tarmac/tarmacadam/asphalt (sound, clean, and dry)

  • Porous concrete (etch or prime with Paintmaster Concrete Primer if dense or power-floated)

Not suitable for polished/non-porous concrete, previously sealed surfaces that remain water-repellent, or areas with standing water. Always complete a small test patch first.

Available Colours:

Black • Red • Charcoal • Mid Grey
Custom colours: BS 4800 / RAL shades available on bulk orders ≥ 100 L for branding or bay marking.

Coverage & Spread Rate:

  • Typical spread: ≈ 6 m² per litre per coat on driveway-grade tarmac (surface profile and porosity affect coverage).

  • Apply two thin coats at right angles for best uniformity, colour depth, and durability.

Drying & Curing Times (@ 18 °C):

  • Touch dry: 3–4 hours

  • Recoat: 4–6 hours

  • Light foot traffic: 12 hours

  • Vehicle traffic: 48 hours

  • Full cure: 7 days

Keep freshly coated areas dry for at least 6 hours after application; cool or damp conditions extend drying.

Finish & Sheen:

  • Normal: Smooth satin

  • Anti-Slip: Textured satin with pre-blended fine silica for discreet traction

5 L • 10 L • 20 L

Storage & Clean-Up:

  • Store sealed between 5–30 °C, frost-free, and out of direct sun.

  • Clean tools with warm, soapy water immediately after use.

  • Thinning: Ready to use; if spraying, thin with up to 5% clean water (excess thinning reduces film build).

For large areas, order the total requirement in one batch to ensure shade consistency across the job.

Safety Notice:

Apply outdoors or in well-ventilated areas. Avoid contact with eyes and prolonged skin exposure; wear gloves and eye protection. Keep away from children and pets until fully dry. Do not apply if rain is forecast within 24 hours. Dispose of waste according to local regulations. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full guidance.

Paintmaster Acrylic Tarmac Paint & Sealer is designed for domestic, commercial, and light industrial projects where faded or fretting tarmac needs a fast, durable refresh. Its versatility makes it suitable for:

  • Residential driveways and pathways: restores a clean satin finish, masks patch repairs, and locks in aggregate.
  • Car parks and bay markings: resists oil drips, tyre scuffs, and everyday wear in high-traffic zones.
  • Playgrounds, courtyards, and cycle lanes: recolours and seals surfaces to reduce dust and improve safety.
  • Commercial forecourts and pedestrian areas: low-odour application ensures minimal disruption for public or staff use.
  • Sloped paths, ramps, or entrances: Anti-Slip variant provides extra traction in wet or high-traffic conditions.

Its water-based, quick-dry acrylic formulation makes it an excellent choice where downtime must be limited, with most projects reopening within 24–48 hours.

Application Instructions

Surface Preparation

  1. Clean thoroughly: Jet-wash or stiff-brush to remove moss, weeds, dirt, and loose material.
  2. Degrease: Treat oil or fuel spots with a proprietary cleaner.
  3. Drying: Ensure substrate is fully dry for at least 48 hours; surface moisture should be below 4%.
  4. Concrete note: On dense concrete, lightly etch or prime with Paintmaster Concrete Primer to ensure adhesion.

Mixing

  • Stir product for at least 2 minutes before use.
  • Anti-Slip version: already pre-loaded with fine silica, no additional additive required.

First Coat

  • Apply evenly with a stiff brush or medium-nap roller, working paint into the surface texture.
  • Avoid pooling in depressions or joints.

Second Coat

  • After 4–6 hours at 18 °C (surface dry and cool to the touch), apply a second coat at right angles to the first.
  • Two thin coats provide a stronger film build, richer colour, and better durability than one heavy coat.

Curing & Reopening

  • Keep the surface dry and protected from rain for at least 6 hours post-application.
  • Light foot traffic: after 12 hours
  • Vehicle traffic: after 48 hours
  • Heavy loads/chemical cleaning: after full 7-day cure

Pro Tips

  • Always apply a test patch to confirm colour shade and slip resistance before treating the full surface.
  • Maintain a wet edge and work in manageable sections to avoid lap marks.
  • For bay markings or decorative designs, mask off areas and de-tape as soon as the coating is touch-dry to prevent tearing.

Clean-Up

  • Clean brushes, rollers, and trays with warm, soapy water immediately after use.
  • Dispose of any leftover material or waste responsibly in line with local regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What surfaces can Paintmaster Acrylic Tarmac Paint be applied to?
It is suitable for tarmac, asphalt, and porous concrete surfaces. For dense or power-floated concrete, use Paintmaster Concrete Primer first to ensure proper adhesion.
Does this tarmac paint restore colour as well as seal?
Yes, it refreshes faded black, red, grey, or charcoal tarmac with a durable satin finish while sealing the surface to reduce fretting, dust, and day-to-day wear.
What finish can I expect after application?
The Normal version dries to a smooth satin, while the Anti-Slip variant leaves a micro-textured satin surface with fine silica for added grip in wet conditions.
How long before I can walk or drive on the surface?
At 18 °C, foot traffic is safe after 12 hours, with vehicle traffic allowed after 48 hours. A full chemical and weather-resistant cure takes 7 days.
How many coats are required for the best results?
Two thin coats are recommended, applied at right angles, to achieve uniform colour depth, stronger protection, and longer-lasting performance.
Can this product be used on concrete driveways?
Yes, it can be applied to porous or lightly etched concrete. For dense or polished concrete, prime first with Paintmaster Concrete Primer to promote adhesion.
Is this a water-based or solvent-based tarmac sealer?
It is a water-based acrylic sealer, making it low-odour, safer to use, VOC-compliant, and easy to clean with soapy water after application.
Does the Anti-Slip version feel rough underfoot?
No, it uses fine silica to create discreet traction. It feels natural underfoot while improving safety on slopes, entrances, and wet areas.
What is the typical coverage per litre?
Coverage is around 6 m² per litre per coat on driveway-grade tarmac, though surface porosity and profile may affect spread rate.
Will this paint protect against oil, dirt, and weathering?
Yes, it forms a weather-resistant, breathable film that repels oil drips, rainwater, fuel, and everyday dirt, keeping driveways looking fresher for longer.
Can I spray-apply Paintmaster Acrylic Tarmac Sealer?
Yes, it can be spray-applied if thinned with up to 5% clean water, though brush or roller application ensures better coverage on textured surfaces.
How should I prepare the driveway before painting?
Surfaces should be jet-washed, fully dried, and free from moss, weeds, grease, or loose material. Always patch test to confirm shade and slip resistance.
Will the finish peel or flake over time?
When applied correctly, it bonds to the substrate and resists peeling. Its breathable acrylic formula helps prevent moisture damage and premature flaking.
Is this paint suitable for playgrounds or cycle lanes?
Yes, it is widely used for playgrounds, forecourts, and cycle lanes, as it recolours surfaces, reduces dust, and withstands moderate to heavy use.
How long will the colour and protection last?
With two coats, Paintmaster Acrylic Tarmac Paint delivers a long-lasting, weather-resistant finish that typically protects surfaces for several years.
