Vintage Varnish Clear Polyurethane Varnish is a single-pack, solvent-borne clear PU varnish formulated to deliver a crystal-clear, durable gloss on bare or previously varnished timber. The long-oil polyurethane penetrates and bonds tenaciously, forming a flexible yet abrasion-resistant film ideal for doors, windows, skirting, furniture tops, and hardwood floors.

Advanced UV absorbers lock in colour and clarity, preventing the ambering associated with traditional oil varnishes, while the low-odour solvent system makes indoor application more pleasant. The varnish self-levels beautifully when brushed, eliminating drag marks and leaving a deep, glass-like finish that highlights the natural grain.

Manufactured in the UK under ISO 9001, Vintage Varnish comes ready for use; simply stir and apply two to three coats for long-lasting protection and showroom gloss.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the oil-based satinwood paint yellow over time?
All alkyd enamels amber slightly; Magnolia camouflages this best. Regular daylight slows the yellowing of the satinwood finish.
Can I apply oil-based satinwood paint over a water-based undercoat?
Yes—ensure the water-based undercoat is fully cured (24 h) and lightly sanded to create a proper key for the satinwood paint.
What is the minimum temperature for applying satinwood paint?
10 °C; cooler temperatures slow the cure of the durable satinwood paint and increase the risk of bloom.
Will this satinwood paint self-level without brush marks?
The long-oil resin in this oil-based satinwood paint provides excellent flow and levelling—use a quality synthetic brush and maintain a wet edge for the best satinwood finish.
Is the satinwood paint suitable for radiators?
Yes—this interior satinwood paint is heat-resistant up to 90 °C once fully cured; allow 7 days before bringing radiators online.
Can I spray oil-based satinwood paint?
Absolutely—HVLP 1.8 mm or airless 0.013–0.015″ tip spray recommended. Thin with up to 10 % white spirit if needed for spray application.
How do I achieve a super-smooth satinwood finish on doors?
Sand primer with P240, tack off, apply a mist coat, then denib with P320 before applying two flowing coats of satinwood paint—tip off lightly to avoid brush marks.
Is sanding between coats of satinwood paint essential?
Sanding is recommended if more than 24 hours pass before recoating to ensure a mechanical key and smooth satinwood finish.
Can I add a hardener or catalyst to accelerate the cure of satinwood paint?
No—this is a single-pack oil-based satinwood paint; adding hardeners may compromise film integrity and durability.
How soon can I clean surfaces painted with oil-based satinwood paint?
Wait 7 days for full cure; clean gently using mild detergent and a soft cloth to preserve the satinwood finish.
