Extreme Paints Machinery Enamel Paint is a premium single-pack, solvent-based oxide gloss formulated to deliver outstanding durability and an attractive, high-build finish for industrial, agricultural, and construction equipment. Designed for the demanding conditions faced by farm machinery, plant equipment, silos, skips, steelwork, and fabricated metal, this professional-grade enamel combines advanced polyurethane technology with anti-corrosive pigments to provide long-lasting weather and impact resistance.

The modified polyurethane resin creates a tough, flexible coating that resists cracking or peeling under vibration and thermal movement, while the high-performance rust-inhibiting pigments protect bare or primed metal from corrosion.

Once applied, the paint self-levels to a smooth, uniform gloss that retains colour and sheen even under continuous outdoor exposure. It also repels oil, grease, and common industrial contaminants, allowing for easy cleaning with a jet-wash or pressure washer.

Extreme Paints Machinery Enamel Paint can be used on a wide range of substrates, including mild steel, galvanised iron (properly etched), cast machinery parts, timber crates, and prepared concrete bases. It can also be applied over well-bonded existing coatings, making it ideal for maintenance and refurbishment projects as well as new builds.

Formulated and manufactured in the UK under ISO 9001 quality standards, this professional enamel is supplied in trade-sized 5 L, 10 L, and 20 L tins to suit everything from small-scale repairs to large equipment overhauls.

Key Features

  • Industrial-Grade Protection: Modified polyurethane system provides exceptional weather, impact, and abrasion resistance for machinery and heavy-duty equipment.

  • Anti-Corrosive Performance: Rust-inhibiting pigments prevent oxidation on steel and iron substrates, extending service life in harsh environments.

  • Flexible Film: Withstands vibration and thermal expansion without cracking or flaking.

  • High Gloss Finish: Self-leveling resin produces a smooth, showroom-quality oxide gloss that resists oil, grease, and general dirt.

  • Easy Application: Can be applied by brush, short-nap roller, or airless spray directly from the tin with minimal thinning required.

  • Colour Options: Available in 11 ready-mix colours with custom BS 4800 or RAL shades for orders of 100 L or more.

Coverage & Spreading Rate

Approximately 6: 8 m² per litre per coat, depending on the porosity and profile of the surface. Two thin coats are recommended to achieve optimum colour depth and film build.

Drying & Recoat Times (@18 °C)

  • Touch Dry: 6: 8 hours

  • Recoat: 6: 8 hours

  • Full Cure: 7 days for maximum hardness and chemical resistance

Drying times may extend in cooler, damp, or poorly ventilated conditions.

Storage & Clean-Up

  • Store sealed between 5 °C and 30 °C, away from direct sunlight, flames, or sparks.

  • Clean all brushes, rollers, and spray equipment immediately after use with white spirit or standard solvent thinners.

  • Ensure tins are tightly closed between uses to maintain product performance.

Batch & Packaging Information

For large projects, always order the full required volume in one batch to ensure colour consistency. During peak demand, products may be supplied in plain Trade Supplies UK tins; performance and specification remain identical.

Safety Guidance

This is a flammable, solvent-based coating. Apply only with good ventilation and away from ignition sources. Avoid breathing vapours or prolonged skin contact. Always wear suitable gloves, eye protection, and a respirator mask, especially when spraying. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full handling instructions.

Surface Preparation

Remove all grease, oil, dirt, and surface contaminants before painting. Wire-brush or mechanically abrade to remove rust and loose or flaking paint. Ensure the substrate is sound, dry, and free from moisture before application.

Priming

For bare or rusty steel, spot-prime with Extreme Paints Metal Oxide Primer to improve adhesion and long-term corrosion protection. On aluminium or galvanised steel, first etch-prime to ensure proper bonding.

Mixing

Stir the paint thoroughly for at least 2 minutes using a paddle mixer to achieve a uniform consistency.

First Coat

Apply using a quality brush, short-nap roller, or airless spray (0.015–0.017″ tip). For spray application, thin up to 10% with white spirit if required. Apply a thin, even coat to avoid runs and sagging.

Second Coat

Allow 6–8 hours drying at 18 °C before applying the second coat. Apply at right angles to the first coat for a strong, even finish and a film thickness of approximately 50 µm dry.

Curing

Protect freshly painted surfaces from rain and moisture for at least 24 hours. Light handling is possible after 24 hours, while full mechanical and chemical resistance develops after 7 days.

Recommended Uses

  • Agricultural Machinery: Protects tractors, trailers, silos, and grain handling equipment from rust and abrasion.
  • Construction Plant & Equipment: Ideal for excavators, diggers, skips, and site containers exposed to harsh outdoor conditions.
  • Metal Fabrications: Provides a smooth, professional finish on gates, railings, structural steel, and machinery parts.
  • Timber & Concrete Bases: Seals and enhances prepared timber crates, wooden formwork, and porous concrete plinths.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Once cured, the enamel finish can be cleaned easily with mild detergents or pressure washing, maintaining a bright, professional appearance even in heavy-use industrial settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What surfaces can I use this enamel paint on?
This paint is suitable for steel, galvanised metal (etched), aluminium, timber, concrete, and most well-bonded existing coatings. Always prepare and clean the surface to ensure proper adhesion and a long-lasting finish.
Can I apply it directly onto rusted metal?
Spot-prime rusted areas with Extreme Paints Metal Oxide Primer before topcoating. Priming prevents corrosion from continuing beneath the enamel and ensures a smooth, durable finish.
How many coats are recommended?
Two thin coats are generally recommended for optimal protection, gloss, and durability. A first coat forms the base, and the second enhances colour, coverage, and mechanical resistance.
What tools can I use to apply the paint?
You can use brushes, short-nap rollers, or airless spray systems. When spraying, thin up to 10% with white spirit for smoother application and to avoid runs or uneven coverage.
How long does it take to dry?
The paint is touch-dry within 6–8 hours at 18 °C, allowing for a second coat. Full mechanical and chemical resistance develops after 7 days, so avoid heavy use until then.
Can I use this paint on aluminium or galvanised steel?
Yes, but the surface must be properly etched or primed with a suitable primer. This ensures the enamel adheres correctly and prevents peeling or flaking over time.
Is the paint suitable for outdoor machinery exposed to harsh weather?
Yes, the polyurethane-modified enamel resists vibration, weathering, and UV exposure. It is ideal for tractors, construction plant, skips, and outdoor metal fabrications.
How should I clean tools after painting?
Clean brushes, rollers, and spray equipment immediately after use with white spirit. Waiting too long will make cleaning difficult and may damage tools.
Can I tint the paint to a custom colour?
Yes, custom BS 4800 or RAL shades are available for bulk orders of 100 L or more. This is useful for branding, fleet matching, or specific project requirements.
Is it safe to use indoors or in enclosed spaces?
The paint is solvent-based and flammable, so it should only be used in well-ventilated areas. Always wear protective gloves, eye protection, and a respirator if spraying.
How do I maintain the painted surface?
Once cured, the surface can be cleaned with mild detergents, soft brushes, or light pressure washing. Avoid harsh abrasives that could scratch the gloss finish.
Can I apply this paint over old coatings?
Yes, provided the existing coating is sound, clean, and well-bonded. Remove any loose paint, degrease the surface, and lightly abrade if necessary to improve adhesion.
What precautions should I take during application?
Keep away from open flames, sparks, and heat. Protect surrounding areas from spills, and wear gloves, eye protection, and suitable clothing to avoid skin contact.
Can this paint resist oil, grease, and jet-wash cleaning?
Yes, the enamel is designed to resist oil, grease, and regular cleaning with water or mild detergents. This makes it ideal for farm, workshop, and industrial machinery.
