Anti-slip decking paint adds colour and a textured finish to properly prepared wooden decking. Choosing the right coating is only part of the job: cleaning, timber condition, additive mixing and curing all affect the result.
What is supplied with Extreme Anti-Slip Decking Paint?
Extreme Anti-Slip Decking Paint is a water-based exterior timber coating. The pack contains base paint and a separate silica anti-slip additive. Mix the complete supplied additive into the paint before application, then stir periodically to keep the grit evenly distributed.
The textured finish provides additional grip. It does not make decking slip-proof when wet, icy or contaminated, and it does not remove the need to clear algae, moss and debris.
Check the decking before painting
The main uses are prepared softwood or hardwood decking, wooden steps, verandas and walkways. Check the condition and compatibility of any existing finish. This product is not suitable for composite decking.
Repair loose or damaged boards, remove loose coatings and clean away dirt, grease, algae and moss. Allow the timber to dry and test an inconspicuous area, particularly where oils or other treatments have been used.
Mix and apply the coating
- Check the label, weather conditions and product instructions before starting.
- Stir the base paint and mix in all of the supplied silica additive until evenly distributed.
- Apply by brush or roller. Do not spray paint mixed with silica grit.
- Apply two thin, even coats, avoiding pooling in grooves and between boards.
- Stir periodically during use and follow the product's recoat instructions.
- Protect the fresh coating from rain and keep traffic off until the specified drying and curing periods have passed.
How much paint is needed?
The current product rate is approximately 6–8 m² per litre per coat. With two coats, a 5L pack covers approximately 15–20 m², 10L covers 30–40 m² and 20L covers 60–80 m². Rough or grooved boards and porous timber can require more material. These estimates describe finished two-coat areas, not one-coat coverage.
Allow time for curing and maintenance
Follow the current product page and label for touch-dry, recoat, foot-traffic and full-cure times. Cool, damp or shaded conditions can extend drying. Touch dry does not mean the coating has reached full weather resistance.
Keep the finished deck clean, check worn areas and attend to contamination or loose boards promptly. Consult the product safety information for handling and protective equipment, and clean brushes and rollers with warm soapy water while the paint is still wet.
