Extreme Paints Barn & Shed Paint is a high-performance, water-based acrylic exterior paint engineered for farm buildings, industrial outbuildings, metal cladding, and timber sheds. This advanced formula combines the durability of solvent-based paints with the eco-friendly benefits of water-based technology.

Unlike traditional enamels, this acrylic oxide gloss dries fast, has a low odour, and can be cleaned up with soap and water. It forms a flexible but tough coating that moves with wood expansion and adheres tightly to galvanized or primed steel, helping prevent rust, flaking, and chalking.

Ideal for:

  • Barn doors and cladding

  • Galvanised metal sheds

  • Wooden or concrete farm buildings

  • Corrugated steel panels

  • Industrial and commercial outbuildings

Suitable Substrates

  • Softwood, hardwood, plywood

  • Galvanised steel (abraded), primed metal

  • Aluminium

  • Concrete panels, cement board

  • Brickwork, rendered masonry

Bare steel must be spot-primed with an anti-corrosive oxide primer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What surfaces can I use this barn and shed paint on?
Extreme Paints’ barn and shed paint is suitable for wood, metal, concrete, masonry, galvanised steel, and previously painted surfaces—making it perfect for both timber barns and corrugated metal sheds.
Is this acrylic barn paint safe for livestock areas like stables or chicken coops?
Yes. This low-VOC, water-based barn paint is safe for use in agricultural environments once dry. It's ideal for livestock sheds, cattle barns, and horse stables.
Can I apply this shed paint over old coatings like bitumen or creosote?
No. Acrylic shed paint won’t properly bond to bitumen or creosote. Strip or isolate these coatings before application for best results.
Do I need a primer for new wood or metal surfaces before applying barn and shed paint?
For new pressure-treated wood, let it weather 4 weeks—then clean and paint without a primer. For bare metal, especially steel, use an oxide primer before applying this UV-resistant barn paint.
How long does barn and shed paint take to dry?
Touch dry in 2–4 hours, recoat after 2–4 hours, and fully cured in 7 days. You can use the painted shed or barn after 24 hours for light activity.
Is this barn and shed paint resistant to sunlight and weather?
Yes. It contains UV absorbers and weatherproofing agents that protect surfaces from sun fading, rain, and wind—ideal for outdoor farm buildings, garden sheds, and industrial barns.
Can I spray apply this acrylic barn paint?
Yes. You can use HVLP or airless sprayers (tip size 0.015"–0.017") for smooth application, making it efficient for large barn cladding and metal shed panels.
Will the paint stop rust on metal sheds or barn doors?
It helps protect against future rust, but heavy corrosion must be removed first. Use a compatible anti-rust primer under this shed paint for metal surfaces.
What’s the best temperature to apply barn and shed paint?
Apply when air and surface temperatures are above 8°C and rising. Avoid cold weather, dew, or rain within 3 hours of application.
How long will the barn paint last before recoating is needed?
With proper prep and two coats, the barn and shed paint lasts 5–8 years. Longevity may vary depending on weather exposure and colour (darker shades last longer).
Can I use this shed paint on concrete or brick walls?
Yes—this acrylic shed paint bonds well to concrete panels, brickwork, or cement fibre boards, making it perfect for farm storage rooms or mixed-material sheds.
Will the barn paint crack on metal joints or expanding wood?
No. The flexible acrylic resin film is designed to expand and contract with temperature changes, preventing cracking or peeling.
Can I custom mix colours of this barn and shed paint on-site?
Yes, but for best consistency, it’s recommended to order factory-tinted shades for large areas. Small on-site blending is fine for patchwork.
Does this shed paint resist animal waste like ammonia or urine?
Yes. It is suitable for agricultural settings as it resists mild chemicals, including vapours from manure or animal bedding.
How should I store leftover barn and shed paint?
Seal the tin tightly and store in a frost-free environment between 5°C and 30°C. Decant into smaller pots to reduce air exposure if only partly used.
