Extreme Paints Quick‑Dry Alkyd Floor Paint is a single-pack, low-odour coating engineered to deliver polyurethane-like toughness with the speed of an acrylic. Formulated with a modified alkyd resin, it creates a durable, easy-clean satin finish that withstands solvents, salts, and frequent forklift or foot traffic. The optional pre-measured silica additive adds a fine anti-slip texture for ramps, loading bays, or wet areas.

Ideal for garages, workshops, food-prep rooms, agricultural bays, and any workspace requiring minimized downtime, this paint can be applied directly to sound concrete, timber, or prepared metal. For bare or porous slabs, a coat of Extreme Seal Concrete Dustproofer & Primer is recommended to maximize adhesion and reduce delamination risk.

Manufactured in the UK under ISO 9001 quality controls, it comes in 5 L, 10 L, and 20 L tins, allowing DIY users and professionals to coat large areas without colour variation.

Suitable Substrates

Standard concrete, screed, timber, mild steel, and most porous masonry. Not suitable over existing solvent or oil-based coatings without full removal or adhesion testing.

Colours Available

Coverage

Approximately 6–8 m² per litre per coat on smooth concrete.

Drying Time

Touch dry 2–4 h @ 18 °C (add 1 h for anti-slip). Recoat after 2–4 h. Light foot traffic after 12 h; vehicle traffic after 48 h. Full cure in 7 days.

Storage & Clean-Up

Store sealed at 5–25 °C away from flame. Clean tools with white spirit while wet.

  • Surface Prep: Degrease and remove dust/loose paint. Etch or grind power-floated concrete. Ensure substrate is dry (<4% moisture).
  • Priming: On bare, porous slabs, prime with Extreme Seal Concrete Dustproofer & Primer.
  • Mixing: Stir for 2 minutes with a paddle mixer. Add anti-slip silica if required, mixing until uniform.
  • First Coat: Apply thin, even layer (~50 µm WFT) with brush or short-nap roller. Avoid pooling.
  • Second Coat: Apply cross-directional coat after 2–4 h. Maximum two coats in 24 h.
  • Curing: Keep dust-free for 12 h; avoid washing or chemical exposure for 7 days

Frequently Asked Questions

How soon can I park my car after painting the garage floor?
Wait 48 hours at 18 °C; cooler temperatures extend cure time.
Will this paint adhere over old epoxy?
Not recommended. Remove or thoroughly abrade and test adhesion first.
Can I thin the paint for spraying?
Yes, add up to 5 % white spirit. Excessive thinning reduces film build.
Does the anti-slip grit change coverage?
Slightly; expect 5–6 m²/L on textured coats due to increased surface area.
Is it suitable for exterior patios?
Yes, on well-drained slabs. Protect from standing water for the first 24 h.
Will tyre heat soften the coating?
Once fully cured, the alkyd resists hot-tyre pickup to >60 °C.
Can I use it on wooden steps?
Yes; sand, prime knots, and apply two thin coats. Anti-slip additive is advisable.
What’s the minimum application temperature?
Apply above 10 °C and rising; humidity under 80 %.
Does it get yellow indoors?
Alkyds may amber slightly over years; dark colours show minimal yellowing.
How do I repair a chip?
Clean, lightly sand the edge, wipe, then dab a touch-up coat; blends after 2–3 days.
Can I add extra grit for ramps?
Yes; add up to 50 % more silica but stir frequently to keep grit suspended.
Will oil spills stain the surface?
Most automotive oils wipe away if cleaned within an hour.
Is a polyurethane topcoat necessary?
Not required; two coats provide full protection. PU clear can boost gloss if desired.
How should I dispose of leftover paint?
Harden small amounts; take liquid waste to a hazardous-waste facility.
Can I tint small tins on-site?
Minor shade tweaks with alkyd tinters are possible; bulk custom colours are factory-tinted for accuracy.
