Epoxy and polyurethane describe coating families. They do not establish a particular product’s traffic rating, chemical resistance, outdoor suitability or application method. Compare the complete specified systems rather than choosing by resin name.
Compare the actual products
Ask for the product-specific technical data sheet, substrate requirements, approved primer, coat thickness, coverage and curing stages. A two-component system and a single-pack decorative paint can have very different requirements even when both use a polyurethane description. Do not add a hardener to a single-pack paint.
Garages and industrial floors
Describe parked cars, turning tyres, trolleys, forklifts and the exact chemicals involved. Require written suitability for those conditions. Extreme polyurethane floor paint is a separate listed product from Floormaster; do not treat their instructions as interchangeable. The Extreme product is not suitable for wet rooms.
Combining coatings
Do not apply polyurethane over epoxy merely because the combination is common elsewhere. Both manufacturers must confirm the particular products, preparation and recoat window. A test patch cannot establish long-term chemical or traffic performance.
Outdoor use and costs
Choose an explicitly approved exterior system. UV stability, weather resistance and working temperatures vary by formulation. Compare the cost of preparation, primer, all coats and downtime; there is no universal cheaper or longer-lasting resin family.
